Jams World® is not a Hawaiian shirt maker as much as we are a manufacturer of contemporary casual lifestyle wear with themes that transcend markets and seasons. Jams World® has been designing and manufacturing clothing in Honolulu, Hawaii for the young and young at heart since 1964. We have deep roots in the ocean and surfing and the Jams World® of today, as in the past, is all about COLOR, FREEDOM, DIFFERENCE & LOVE. We are passionate about vibrant COLORS, the FREEDOM to dress the way you feel, the courage to be DIFFERENT, with HUMOR and a LOVE of life!

Jams World® got its start as Jams® shorts, which were sold in our original store "Surf Line Hawaii", a small surfboard shop located in Honolulu across the street from the famous Ala Moana Shopping Center. The store carried surfboards from legendary shapers like Yater, Hobie, Bing, Lopez, and Aipa, to name a few. We could not find any clothing that we thought was fun, colorful, and unique so we began to create our own! Jams® shorts were long, colorful, and fun, unlike anything else on the market at the time. Mike Doyle, then Surfing World Champion, turned heads with the first pair at Makaha Beach in the 60's. Butch Van Artsdalen, a talented surfer, lifeguard, and waterman followed suit and the brand took off, adding new styles and prints to the line.

The Jams World® of today has evolved into a sophisticated brand for both Women
and Men and is sold internationally. The reason for Jams World®'s success is passion. We are passionate about our product and committed to quality. We strive to be the best at what we do. Jams World® has become one of the Beach & Resort Apparel Industry's true leaders.

"Over the years, we've worked hard to develop a keen sense of who we are and
what we want to be. We are art-driven and demand of ourselves the highest standard of beauty, uniqueness, quality, and service. Jams World® has become one of the beach & resort apparel industry's True Leaders.

Surf Line Hawaii, Ltd.

With roots starting in the ocean, Jams World®'s origin began as a surfboard shop called "Surf Line Hawaii", a small shop in Honolulu, Hawaii, located across the street from the famous "Ala Moana" Shopping Center.

We carried mostly surfboards from legends like Yater, Hobie, Bing, Lopez, and Aipa, to name a few. We could not find any clothing that we thought was fun, colorful, and unique so we began to create our own - the first being Jams®, long, colorful, and fun. Mike Doyle, then World Champion, wore the first pair at Makaha in the 60's, and then so did Butch Van Artsdalen, a talented surfer, lifeguard, and waterman. And the rest is history. Today Jams World® has grown up. We have come out of the surf, up the beach, across the boardwalk, and halfway to town. We now sell to accounts throughout the world. The reason for Jams World®'s success is passion. We are passionate about our product. Jams World® has truly become one of the beach & resort apparel industry's True Leaders.

The son of a Russian-born journalist, David Y. Rochlen, fell in love with surfing and the ocean-going Hawaiian lifestyle. As a former lifeguard in Santa Monica, he came to the industry with credentials- ocean roots and a love for the sun and sea.

In the search for comfortable surfing attire, Dave was inspired by a Life magazine article depicting bathers at Black Sea resorts wearing their bathrobes and PJ's down to the beach. He bought some brightly printed fabric and asked his wife, Kenue, to make him a short pajama with a few modifications: no top, sewn-up fly, and legs cut off at the knee. Jams® was born!

Soon all his surfing buddies wanted a pair of his Jams®. He quit his job as a systems analyst and began Surf Line Hawaii, Ltd., with his first pair of commercial Jams® hitting Makaha Beach in December of 1964. Their appeal as a surfing lifestyle item landed Dave and a group of his surfing buddies a two-page spread in Life Magazine in June 1965. Phenomenal international demand for the brand followed.
